Why is 2012 a Great Mystery?
The year 2012, is considered a Great Mystery because it is referred to as the ‘End of an Age,’ the End of a World Cycle. Great cycles that until now much of humanity has paid little attention to. Astrologists also refer to this time as the End of the Piscean Age and the End of the Procession of Equinoxes. So with each ending, there is a new beginning. Only in the case of 2012, it is the end of a grand number of cycles all of which leading to the Mystery of what is to come. What is to come in 2013? Will it be an apocalyptic end of the World or will it be the dawning of the ‘Golden Age’? Both of these prophecies are correct. We have the end of the World, as we know it, and we have the creation of a new way of being.
For further answers I look to the Mayan Calendar, which is set to end on December 21, 2012. The Mayan Calendar is like any other calendar, in that it measures time, it has a beginning and an end, and one proceeds after another. So, getting wrapped up in the dramas about what might be, would be like fretting over December 31st, not knowing if you were going to awaken on January 1st. Are things going to change? Yes. Are they going to be different? Yes. Are things going to continue? Yes!
The Mayan Calendar goes a step further than an ordinary calendar, in that it measures the natural cycles of time. Rather then looking to the stars for its measurement, it measures the heartbeat or pulse of Mother Earth. This pulse or vibration underlies all that is; it affects every aspect of our beingness. These natural cycles are also referred to as evolutionary cycles. These cycles trace our evolutionary path, as well as, paint a picture of where we are headed in the evolutionary process.
In Gregg Braden’s current book, Fractal Time, he references a 5000-year cycle, a cycle that began in 3114BC that is prepared to end in 2012AD. This corresponds with the National Underworld of the Mayan Calendar that is preparing to end in 2012. Based on Fractal Time, one looks at previous cycles to detect the patterns that are repeating themselves in the current time. The Mayan Calendar allows us to look at previous cycles, but also allows us to look at what cycle we are in and the energy of the upcoming cycles.
Thus, the Mayan Calendar can be useful at this time because we are entering a very pivotal cycle right now. We are approaching the Universal Underworld in 2011 or final cycle of the Mayan Calendar. The Universal Underworld will be giving us the opportunity to consciously intervene in our evolution by resetting the patterns that did not serve us in the past. The opportunity to resolve conflicting ways of thinking, being and acting. This is where our co-creation ability comes into play. We can choose to continue our warring competitive ways or we can consider the peaceful cooperative opportunities. It is where we as individuals, as well as a group, can choose a different path. A path that may start with you choosing to heal yourself of the patterns that no longer serve you.
When we look at this time or even 2012 with the Mayan Calendar, we find that all energies are leading us to the point of Evolutionary Ascension, or what Barbara Marx Hubbard refers to as the evolution of the Universal Human. Ultimately, we either evolve or we evolve, it is our choice if we do this with conscious intent or struggle unconsciously.
If we choose conscious evolution, we can use the Mayan Calendar to guide us through this time by looking at the energy influencing this and upcoming cycles. In doing so we can move to a level of awareness where we no longer respond to the stress and chaos; to a level of being proactive in understanding and preparing for the changes. Thus, reducing the stress and chaos not only in our own lives but also for the growth process all of humanity that is going through.
In looking at our current cycle, Day 6 of the Galactic Underworld, we can find this time seeded in our most recent Day 6 cycle related to the time from 1952 to 1972, or Planetary Underworld. As we do, we will notice the patterns occurring not on a National level as they did before, but on a Global level. We notice the financial and economic problems occurring not just within our country, but around the globe. The government support of the rail industry that occurred in the 1950’s, corresponding with the current government support of the banking industry. We will see the rise of the peace, love, and happiness of the ‘60’s returning after the Mid-Heaven of Day 6, on May 11, 2009. These energies are going to take more of an internal focus on how we can live in peace within ourselves, love of one another and in true happiness of our being. This will happen in our own lives, and also with the companies and organizations in which we work or run.
Those individuals and companies that embrace the energies of this time are going to survive and thrive, those that do not will gradually loose the support and power that they once relished. This is part of what is meant by the end of the World, as we know it. The cycle of materialism, competition and manipulation are over. Although, it is important to realize that this cycle was necessary for assisting in humanity’s evolution.
We are now given the opportunity to transition the rest of the World and ourselves, into the new cycle of respect, cooperation and responsibility. We move into a time where we recognize the real value of goods and services, acting responsibly environmentally and socially, and valuing our local communities and their contribution on a global scale. A time of moving from US citizens to global citizens. This is a step that again, we can take with conscious intent or be pushed to through external circumstances.
The cycle is also conducive to economic innovation, a time of flowering or expansion of ideas that were planted before, either in 1952-1972 or since 1999. It is a time of moving towards wholeness and love, a time of healing for ourselves and for healing the environment. A time of balancing local action with global responsibility, a balancing of East and West. A balancing that leads towards unifying the East and West in operating as a one global community; not one built on competition, but on global cooperation.
Individually, we will find ourselves undergoing a balancing of our masculine and feminine aspects. This is currently out picturing in our lives as imbalances in relationships or work environments. We are being given the opportunity to move forward with conscious intent, where we can choose to heal and balance our masculine and feminine, and integrating our intuitive and logical sides. For this is a time of wholeness, not of dominance of one or the other, but of integration and cultivating the best of both. As we heal this within ourselves, we contribute to healing this for the world and easing the growing pains for all of us.
Ultimately, this is all leading us further along the steps in the evolution of the Universal Human. To a point of integration of the spiritual and the physical, to the point of Ascension. To the beginning of a New Age, of a New World Cycle. To the Beginning of the Age of Aquarius and the Dawning of the Golden Age.

Thank-you Steven, for your inspired commentary regarding a complex and challenging issue. The same thinking, creativity, and cooperative co-creation will need to happen in order to make the changes you’ve eloquently discussed.
A recent movie called No Impact Man, may give all of us ideas, information, and inspiration. The movie is elegant in its simplicity; yet, poignant in its urgent message. It definitely fits into the category of transformational entertainment because of its conspicuous and conscious intent.
Om Shanti Shanti Shanti,
Chris
